Since its introduction in 2006, the Porsche Cayman has been the perennial favorite of automotive journalists, racing enthusiasts and car aficionados the world over. It has garnered many accolades along the way such as: Motor Trend’s Best Handling Car and a permanent ranking as one of Car and Driver’s “10 Best” cars. Such an enthusiastic following is not surprising from a vehicle that has been designed from the ground up as the ideal driver’s car.

In recent years, Porsche has made subtle styling upgrades and added some very un-Porsche like optional luxury features such as touch-screen navigation, Bluetooth – phone connections, air-conditioned seating and iPod connectivity. However, the most significant change has been the introduction of Porsche’s seven-speed (PDK) dual-clutch transmission developed from its racing program.

The significance of PDK is noteworthy not only due to the increased fuel economy capabilities (20city/29hwy) or the three driving modes, (comfort/sport/race) but that in Porsche’s 60 plus year history, this is the first Porsche automatic to outperform the traditional six-speed manual. Anyone who has not experienced the mid-engine brilliance and the staggeringly seamless performance of a PDK – equipped Cayman needs to make it a point to see why. There is no substitute.

“I purchased my 2008 Carrera 4S Cabriolet from Porsche of Hawaii because of my previous experiences with their outstanding sales department and their stellar service department. I have total confidence that if any problem arises (none, so far) it will be handled as smoothly and efficiently as the scheduled maintenance service has been with Keith George and Melissa Uyeunten.

With Porsches, you just can’t go wrong. There is a model that is perfect for anyone who appreciates the racing heritage, performance, engineering excellence and outright ‘fun factor’ each one provides. It’s all a matter of personal preference after that. The engine is in the back where it belongs. It is the perfect car for me.

I love this vehicle’s performance, provenance and mechanical bliss. Plus, I got to meet Gerald Schoch. Thanks to Gerald, my wife, Dianne, and I have great cars and have always received great automotive advice. He knows what we like, want and need when it comes to all things automotive.”
