Hawaii Health Care Business Incubator

Except for the occasional sounds of conversation and footsteps, the 25th floor of the Harbor Court building in downtown Honolulu is quieter than your average healthcare institution. The facility – Hawaii Health Care Business Incubator – houses only four clients (out of a maximum capacity of 13). The rest of the floor is a 10,000-square-foot labyrinth of computer labs, videoconference rooms and cubicles with spectacular ocean views. “Our clients get an office furnished with workstations, computers and phones with voice mail and high-speed Internet access,” says William Tobin, incubator manager. “They don’t get space. They get space plus.” Clients have 24-hour access to resources, from fax machines to free magazine subscriptions. Monthly rent isn’t bad, either: roughly $1 per square foot. The 1-and-1/2-year-old incubator is a subsidiary of Hawaii Medical Service Association. Initial funding also was provided by Kapiolani Health and Integrated Services Inc.

Smooth Operator: William Tobin, Manager of Hawaii Health Care Business Incubator.

The incubator’s existing clients are:

EHana LLC - A developer of management information solutions for behavioral-health and human-service organizations. (www.ehana.com)

Pacific Tele-medicine – A provider of telemedicine software and hardware. (www.pacifictelemedicine.net)
