What’s It Worth – University of Hawaii Medical Degree

Nonresidents pay $64,232 a year for four years of medical training at the University of Hawaii’s John A. Burns School of Medicine – not including living expenses. Local students pay half that. The larger figure is about the same as the median tuition and fees at medical schools across the nation – an enormous debt for a young doctor just entering the indentured servitude of residency, with average pay of less than $60,000 a year.
What the medical degree will earn you in the long run depends on your specialty. A beginning general-practice doctor in Hawaii might make as little as $80,000 a year, but, according to Salary.com, the median base salary of an anesthesiologist is $368,000 a year.
