2013 Hawaii Business Top 250: R. Weinstein Pharmaceuticals & Medical Products

Richard, Judy and Jeff Weinstein stand among their employees. The new Weinstein pharmacy opened in August 2012.

Starting with $1100 from savings and a handful of products in 1984, Honolulu Pharmacist Richard Weinstein began going door to door to physicians, clinics, pharmacies and hospitals throughout the State of Hawaii selling pharmaceuticals. Two years earlier something happened that would foretell the future.

The Weinstein Pharmacy Makaha Open Squash Tournament was held on June 9, 2013.

Richard and Judy went on a first date meeting on an early Sunday morning at 6am to play tennis at Ala Moana Beach Park. Afterwards Richard escorted Judy back to her car and noticed that on the front seat was the latest issue of Entrepreneur Magazine.

Richard said, “you’re not going to believe this!” They both walked over to Richard’s car where he pointed to his copy of the same issue of Entrepreneur Magazine. They married the following year. Brother Jeff joined the company in 1985 as Controller. By 1986, R.Weinstein’s growing wholesale pharmaceutical business revenues surpassed $1 million for the first time. Then in 1990 a big break came when R.Weinstein joined a co-op comprised of other independent medical product distributors throughout the United States and Canada gaining access to valuable vendor contracts and crucial marketing support. As a result of this, R.Weinstein was now able to offer Hawaii’s healthcare professionals a local service which could supply both the pharmaceuticals and the medical products and equipment needed to operate their medical offices and clinics. The company moved to a larger office/warehouse in Kakaako and with the addition of numerous key employees, R.Weinstein Pharmaceuticals and Medical Products became the largest independent distributor to Hawaii’s healthcare professionals.

In August 2012 a new service was added with the opening of the Weinstein Pharmacy, specializing in immunizations and prescriptions.

Weinstein Pharmacy works very closely with healthcare professionals to provide a higher level of service and patient care. Over 500 healthcare professionals are already recommending Weinstein Pharmacy to their patients. Ask your healthcare professional about Weinstein Pharmacy and experience the difference yourself.
