2013 Hawaii Business Top 250: Grace Pacific Corporation
We’re always “On The Road”
Grace Pacific’s success has always been guided by its local values and commitment to Hawaii.
From its humble beginnings more than eighty years ago, Grace Pacific Corporation has been a symbol of growth and prosperity and is now one of the State’s largest locally owned companies with revenues topping half a billion and employing more than 700 Kama’aina.
Founded by brothers John and Walter Grace, the company began as a provider of specialized equipment and materials for Hawaii’s construction industry. Before long, Grace Brothers stepped foot in the paving industry purchasing paving operations and hot-mix asphalt plants and soon after the company purchased Pacific Concrete and Rock, a quarry and ready-mix operator on Oahu. It was at this time that the company renamed itself to Grace Pacific Corporation. Since then Grace Pacific continued its expansion through organic growth and acquisitions and now provides many of the basic products and services our local community depends on for growth, including:
- Quarry that provides essential building materials for the construction industry
- Roadway paving material and services
- Import terminals for receiving and storing asphalt and petroleum products
- Roadway safety and traffic control products and equipment
- Custom sign production
- concrete products
- Recycled concrete rubble
- and asphalt
- Gasoline and diesel fueling stations
- Bulk petroleum product distribution
Under the leadership of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer David Hulihee, Grace Pacific Corporation continues to grow and expand its presence as one of the largest privately held local companies in Hawaii. In January 2011 Grace Pacific Corporation added Mid Pac Petroleum, LLC to its portfolio of companies and most recently in November 2011 completed the acquisition of Inter Island Petroleum, a local company with petroleum operations on Kauai, Molokai and Oahu.
“We are pleased to be recognized as one of the top companies in Hawaii and with the recent acquisitions that have helped diversify our holdings. We are committed to continue building one of Hawaii’s largest infrastructure companies, providing essential materials, services and products to support Hawaii’s future growth,” says Hulihee. “Our leadership team is continually scanning the market for future investment opportunities that will enable us to continue this pattern of local growth for the benefit of our customers, employees, communities and shareholders.”
Grace Pacific’s success has always been guided by its local values and commitment to Hawaii. As part of a larger community, it is dedicated to supporting our island state as a good neighbor, a committed steward of our environment and a strong supporter of education and human services. This philosophy, says Hulihee, will continue to be the foundation for paving the company’s future path as well.
