Jul 26, 2013 to Jul 31, 2013
The third annual Art of Hawaiian Coffee event presented by DFS Galleria Waikiki will showcase Hawaii coffee growers and their specialty coffees. Many of the specialty coffees at this event are only available through their local farms or online and often are limited in quantity. Pete Licata (formerly with Honolulu Coffee Company), 2013 World Barista Champion, will be a judge for the latte contest.
This event also celebrates the 200th anniversary of coffee cultivation in Hawaii. Some of the coffee-related activities will include: free samplings, an exhibition on the Hawaii Coffee story, a Latte Art Competition, a coffee cup mosaic demonstration, coffee stain art created by a Marvel Comics anime designer and coffee-inspired beauty makeovers and desserts. The event is free and open to the public.

One of the event highlights is the Latte Art Contest in which baristas compete head-to-head on stage under the pressure of time constraints and a live audience and judges. The event also includes an exhibit showcasing the unique “story” of Hawaii coffee and its history, fun children’s activities and a coffee mosaic assembled by DFS employees. Previous Hawaii resident and national Barista champion, is returning to Hawaii to judge this contest. Licata is fresh from his win as this year’s World Barista Champion.
Coffee growers participating in this year’s event include: Aikane Plantation Coffee Company (Ka'u), Heavenly Hawaiian Farms (Kona), Iiwi Coffee (Big Island), Maui Grown, Rising Sun and Pavaraga (Big Island).
Hawaii is the only state within the USA producing coffee and offers 100 percent Hawaiian grown, Arabica coffees from the major islands. Hawaii has it all from bean to cup, from small family farms to large mechanized estates and from hand pickers to accomplished baristas. Coffee is harvested annually, and ‘Art of Hawaiian Coffee’ will be an extraordinary opportunity to taste the various Hawaii coffees from different islands.
