What: Celebrate the Japanese culture in Hawaii with delicious foods, wonderful camaraderie and live entertainment at the Eighth Annual Taste of Marukai!

  • Enjoy a wide array of Japanese and Okinawan foods including Alaskan King crab, Berkshire pork shabu shabu, abalone, tempura, sushi, sashimi, ramen, yakitori and several others.

  • Taste dozens of types of sake from various makers including the acclaimed Tsukasabotan Brewing Co. from Japan who will perform Kagami-Biraki, a sake barrel ceremony that represents an opening to good fortune.

This fundraising event benefits the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii, the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce, the Honolulu Japanese Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Hawaii United Okinawa Association.

Background: An annual tradition, the Taste of Marukai has grown into one of Marukai’s largest events with 1,000 attendees last year. Through this event, Marukai has donated $190,000 over the last seven years to support community organizations that preserve and extend the Japanese heritage in Hawaii. Marukai features premium value and high quality on fresh meat, seafood and produce; the widest selection of sake in the islands; an array of home items; and direct savings on more than 30,000 specialty foods and dry good items with additional savings for members,
