The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Hawaii Chapter will host a luncheon meeting on Thursday, May 28, 2009, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki. Mike McCartney, President & CEO of the Hawai`i Tourism Authority (HTA), will share what HTA is doing to address the challenges that currently face Hawai`i’s visitor industry. He will discuss the importance of working together to strategically manage Hawai`i tourism in a sustainable manner. McCartney was selected to head the HTA in March 2009. He officially began his duties on April 6th. Previously, McCartney served two years as Chairman of the HTA Board of Directors from 2002-2004. Prior to joining HTA, McCartney was the Executive Director of the Hawai`i State Teachers Association, Director for the State of Hawai`i Department of Human Resources Development, President & CEO of PBS Hawai`i, Chairman of the Democratic Party of Hawai`i, President and co-creator of the Hawai`i Stars Television series, and served as a State Senator in the Hawai`i State Senate from 1988-1998.
