WAIKIKI AQUARIUM TO CELEBRATE 110TH ANNIVERSARY WITH TWO PUBLIC CELEBRATIONS AND $1.10 ADMISSION WHAT: The Waikiki Aquarium’s 110th Anniversary. To commemorate this special occasion, the Aquarium will host two celebrations with discounted admission of $1.10 on each day, prize giveaways and live entertainment. Both events will feature a special marine-themed art exhibit by Iolani School students, an Aquarium built entirely of LEGOs by the LEGO Enthusiast Association of Hawai‘i (LEAHI), a historical look back at the Aquarium’s past and future plans, monk “seal-abration” presentations, an unveiling of a new medallion machine and a new Pepsi product sampling.
ACTIVITIES: Wednesday, March 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. • Music by the Royal Hawaiian Band – 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. • Formal birthday ceremony and cake – 10:30 a.m. • Demonstrations and discussions led by experts and partners such as the University of Hawai‘i Botany Department, Hard Rock Café, Hawai‘i Department of Agriculture Plant Quarantine Branch, Leptoseris Project, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), Pacific Islands Ocean observing System (PacIOOS) and Welina Manoa
Saturday, March 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. • The Great Marine Chalk Art Draw and Kids Doodle Zone – featuring chalk art by local artists Patrick Ching, Michael Furuya, Scott Goto and Allen Tsukamoto • Entertainment by UH Rainbow Marching Band • A performance of musical “The Honu by the Sea” by Johnson Enos at 11 a.m. • Marine-themed LEGO build area • Educational and fun activities from the Aquarium’s education department, Aquascapes, Chuck E. Cheese’s, Coral Fish Hawai‘i, Pigtails & Crewcuts, Lucoral Museum and Waikiki Dive Center
