2011 Hawaii's Better Business Bureau Torch Awards

Honoring Island Businesses and Charities that exemplify the Better Business Bureau’s high ethical standards

Message from Better Business Bureau Of Hawaii, Inc.

Aloha ka-kou,

In a time when marketplace trust is so fragile, the 17th annual Hawaii’s BBB Torch Awards program allows us to honor island businesses, charities and individuals that exemplify the BBB’s high ethical standards. This year’s finalists have faced some very tough business decisions given recent economic times. But those are the decisions that have earned them respect from their customers, vendors, employees and the community.

This year’s honorees are doing a remarkable job of advancing marketplace trust. Hawaii’s BBB Torch Awards not only celebrate the “best of the best” in business and consumer leadership, but also pays homage to those who conduct their business and career with the utmost integrity, compassion and dependability. By recognizing exemplary performance, we hope to encourage all businesses to follow the examples set by these outstanding companies.

We want to extend a heartfelt mahalo to our judging panel who had the daunting and unenviable job to select the finalists. As past Torch Award recipients, they certainly understand the importance of building and celebrating trust. Our judges included: Marian Tsuji of Lanakila Pacific; Dawn Webster of Loomis-ISC; Scott Williams of Lex Brodie’s Tire Company; and Sandra Lacar of Servco.

Finally, we express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to our sponsors and partners, HMSA, Hawaii News Now and Hawaii Business magazine, for their generous support of the BBB Torch Awards.

Mahalo nui loa,

Message from Governor Neil Abercrombie

Aloha and congratulations to the finalists of the Hawai‘i’s Better Business Bureau 2011 Torch Awards. These awards recognize businesses and charities that are committed to ethical business practices.

As our state economy rebounds from these hard economic times, it is important to recognize companies and organizations that have established relationships built on trust with their clients and customers, vendors and employees.

Hawai‘i’s Better Business Bureau (BBB) works tirelessly to promote trust in the marketplace and the Torch Awards program is just one of the many ways it is able to honor local organizations for their dedication to such practices.

I applaud this year’s nominees and finalists for going above and beyond everyday business to demonstrate their commitment to trustworthy business values. They are truly leading by example.

I salute Hawai‘i’s BBB for its consumer advocacy efforts and service to our communities. I wish your organization continued success with future endeavors.

With warmest regards,

Neil Abercrombie
Governor, State of Hawai‘i

Message from Mayor Peter B. Carlisle

It gives me great pleasure to offer my warmest aloha to the finalist of Hawaii’s 2011 Torch Awards.

Hawaii’s Better Business Bureau (BBB) Torch Awards program celebrates marketplace trust, performance and integrity by honoring local businesses, associations and charities for their commitment to best business practices. Hawaii’s BBB Torch award winners showcase exceptional business acumen, encourage fair and ethical standards, and provide models of how commerce should be conducted across the state and throughout the country.
By honoring companies and organizations exemplifying high standards, the BBB perpetuates its mission to build trust between consumers and businesses.

On behalf of the people and the City and County of Honolulu, I commend Hawaii’s BBB 2011 Torch Award entrants, finalists and recipients for their participation and achievements.

Peter B. Carlisle
Honolulu Mayor
