Engineering Firm of the Year
Belt Collins Hawaii
NAIOP Hawaii honors Belt Collins Hawaii as Engineering Firm of the Year, recognizing the company’s enduring excellence over nearly six decades.
Belt Collins grew from the combination of a charismatic planner, Walter K. Collins, and the consummate civil engineer, Robert M. Belt, when they started the firm in Honolulu in 1953. It was the first professional services firm in the Pacific and Asia region to combine urban and land planning, civil engineering, landscape architecture and environmental consulting within one organization. Today, Belt Collins employs more than 500 multi-disciplinary professional and support staff practicing from ten offices in eight countries and territories.
In its early years, Belt Collins’ significant projects included the Ka‘anapali Beach Resort Master Plan, Mauna Kea Beach Resort, Hawaii State Capitol and the Prince Kuhio Federal Building. The State of Hawai‘i Visitor Destination Study co-produced by Belt Collins in 1960 served as a prototype for many other countries and regions, leading to the development of numerous world-class destination resorts throughout the Pacific.

Among the more recent additions to Belt Collins’ Hawaii project portfolio are the Kukulu Hale Award-winning Waikoloa Kings’ Land Clubhouse, Mauna Kea Beach Hotel Renovation, Serenity Pool at Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, Capitol Place condominium, and Hokua at 1288 Ala Moana.
To date, the firm has completed more than 16,000 projects in 70 countries around the world, and has received over 350 awards, honors, and accolades for its projects, practice and people. They include a 2010 “Green Business Award” from the State of Hawai‘i and the 2006 Employer Recognition Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (Committee on Younger Members) highlighting employers who support younger member participation in ASCE activities.
Congratulations to Belt Collins on its newest accolade: NAIOP Hawaii’s Engineering Firm of the Year.

A long-time NAIOP Hawaii board member, Cathy has served on the membership, golf tournament and program committees, among others. She also has been a valued member of the Kukulu Hale Awards committee for many years, serving in various positions from juror to chairwoman.
