Ariyoshi Residence

Award of Excellence and the Mayor’s Choice Award

This entry also won the 2012 Mayor’s Choice Award, which was selected by Honolulu Mayor Peter Carlisle from among all the entries. AIA Honolulu is appreciative of the City and County of Honolulu’s continued participation in the Design Awards program.

The Ariyoshi residence was designed for a young family that returned to Hawai‘i to be closer to their extended ‘ohana. Affordability was the biggest challenge, but also one of the project’s significant achievements.

Mayor Peter Carlisle commends the Collaborative Studio LLC on creating a learning opportunity between the client, architect and builder to create a successful modern green living design solution that was affordable.
