Booz Allen Hamilton
Booz Allen Hamilton, or “Booz Allen” as many refer to the company, has perfected the formula for keeping employees happy: nurture independence and foster team values. The global strategy- and technology-consulting firm employs more than 25,000 people, 316 of which are Hawaii-based. It has also gathered a reputation for being a great place to work, being voted one of the “100 Best Companies to Work For” by Fortune magazine for eight consecutive years, as well as one of the “100 Best Companies for Working Mothers” every year since 1999. What do employees love so much about Booz Allen?

For starters, Booz Allen employees work on missions that matter, supporting the health, security, and well-being of our nation by helping government agencies, institutions, and infrastructure organizations solve their toughest problems. One theme that is consistent throughout the Booz Allen work culture is an environment in which employees not only feel as though they can thrive, but are actually motivated and guided to reach their goals through company programs.
Beyond Booz Allen’s award winning in-house training, employees are nurtured and encouraged through Booz Allen’s many professional development programs, which include traditional classroom training, more than 2,500 online courses, tuition assistance for academic and technical courses, paid professional society membership, external learning opportunities, leadership development programs and mentoring and career planning resources.

Beyond work, Booz Allen also recognizes that for employees to be happy and successful, they must achieve a balanced personal life as well. “Beyond an excellent total-benefits program, the firm funds a wide range of initiatives including trained health educators, confidential employee assistance counseling, fitness programs and sports and recreation leagues,” says company vice president Dennis Gibson. The firm also encourages staff to contribute to community service opportunities when it’s garnered toward individual interests. The Booz Allen staff also works to ensure local high school students are afforded opportunities to obtain a higher education through an endowed fund, offering scholarships through the Hawaii Community Foundation.
Booz Allen employees are further motivated through the firm’s company’s awards programs, which recognize outstanding employees. Through five of the company awards programs, employees may receive recognition in the form of monetary awards, ranging from $100 to $2,000, as well as in other ways such as special gifts, plaques, and extra vacation days. Booz Allen’s highest award is the Values In Practice, or “VIP” Award, which recognizes employees who demonstrate the firm’s core values in their work and personal lives.
Booz Allen employees carry their enthusiasm to their clients, which is perhaps why Booz Allen has enjoyed such great success as a firm. “We are able to work with the best and brightest people for the most prestigious clients in government and industry,” says Gibson. “Our people know their work leads to impact.”
