Aristotle said, “Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life…” It is human nature to seek happiness. Today’s workplace has evolved from an old job paradigm of “trading- hours-for-dollars”, to one where employees increasingly feel they want to be happy and fulfilled. At Toshiba Business Solutions (USA), Inc., we take the “art” of creating a happy and healthy environment for our employees very seriously…. for over 20 years. And that is why we are so honored to be named one of the 2012 Best Places to Work in Hawaii.

Our philosophy for making work a great place to be is simple: Take care of your employees. Our formula for maintaining our philosophy is also simple: Provide continuous training, encourage self-care, engage them in corporate social responsibility and provide a sense of family.
Training… In addition to competitive pay, opportunities for incentives and generous benefits, we also believe in the benefits of training. Our longstanding training objective is to provide the tools and skills to support our employees’ need to do their job, to feel pride in their work and to serve our customers well. Employees actively participate in cross-departmental Kaizen teams and the company and our customers have benefited from employee solutions to operational challenges.

Self-care... Our employees look forward to company-sponsored weekly massage sessions and also lunch hour exercise or yoga classes. At Toshiba we recognize that a physically, emotionally and mentally tuned employee will more than likely enjoy his or her job.
Community… Toshiba regularly participates in various community projects and events such as golf tournaments, fundraising projects and other charity functions. These give employees the opportunity to interact with the community, thereby expanding their worldview beyond the job.
Family… Especially in Hawaii, family is important and plays a big part in an employee’s wellbeing. We celebrate our growing work ohana as often as we can by sponsoring family oriented events throughout the year. Two traditions that everyone looks forward to are the annual Lion Dance and President’s Day beach house weekend.
The foundation for this stems from Renee Gomes, president, who says, “Everyone has something special to contribute. My job as a leader is to find it and nurture it.” That is Toshiba’s company-wide philosophy: To bring out the best in each other every day. Imagine a place where that can happen….it truly has to be one of the Best Places to Work in Hawaii.
