2012 Hawaii's Top Employers Profiles

American Savings Bank

For three years in a row, American Savings Bank employees have voted their bank one of Hawaii’s Best Places to Work. Why? Because employees know they matter. American truly believes in providing every teammate with the ultimate employee experience. Whether it’s getting birthdays off, being able to dress casually, getting paid every week, receiving tuition assistance and attending onsite training classes to reach their career goals or simply having fun at work, American wants employees to know that each and every one of them matters.

Their well-being matters. The LifeBalance program encourages employees to live their best life, providing seminars and classes on topics ranging from personal health and family matters to financial wellness, as well as onsite fitness classes, health fairs and gym memberships.

Their voice matters.  Part of providing the ultimate employee experience includes open communication—with peers and management. With an open door policy and multiple venues for feedback, sharing ideas and working together, the company fosters a culture of endless possibilities on how to be better, faster and more efficient.

Their career development matters. American believes in investing in employees’ personal and professional growth. Whether through the many training and educational opportunities provided through ASB University, or tuition assistance to further their education, American supports employees that want to learn and grow.

Their communities matter. For more than 85 years, American Savings Bank employees have been serving Hawaii’s communities, not only with financial services, but with their hands and hearts. Through the Seeds of Service program, employees have volunteered over 10,000 hours of community service helping clean up the environment, assisting people in need or sprucing up local schools. American employees also give their time and energy to supporting Hawaii’s schools through the Bank for Education program that awards money to local schools and the Financial Literacy program where employees volunteer their time and expertise to teach schoolchildren of all ages how to be financially responsible.

Their happiness matters. American employees are hard workers, but they also know how to have fun. Whether playing ping pong in an employee lounge, participating in a company contest, or celebrating success, having fun is part of the American culture.

“The passion and commitment of our employees are what make American Savings Bank one of Hawaii’s best places to work.  We believe we are the best place to work and that we have the best team in the business,” said Beth Whitehead, Chief Administrative Officer.  “That’s why we are committed to showing our employees how much they matter.”
