Haleakala Solar Inc. - Superior Solar Service

Hawaii is riding an incredible solar energy wave. Generous state and federal government credits have not only made solar hot water and photovoltaic affordable, but also a good investment. With that, however, has come the rise of an interesting phenomenon - the backyard solar installer. In the last three years, over four hundred new “solar” companies have appeared in the Hawaii marketplace. Some started as electricians, others as plumbing companies. Many coming from the mainland just to ride the solar wave.

The only problem is in 2016 the tax credits are due to expire and with that, many, if not most, of these new solar companies will disappear. What happens when your solar system needs servicing or repairs? This is where Haleakala Solar steps in. Haleakala Solar was started over 35 years ago as a solar company. Owner Jim Whitcomb, saw the value in solar energy even back then. Starting as a one-man operation, the company grew quickly. Due to the quality of their work and the extreme care and attention they give to customer service, Haleakala Solar is now one of the largest in the entire state, employing a work force of over 170.

“Without the customer, we are nothing”, says Jim. “We are one of the few solar companies in the Hawaii that has a service division dedicated just to servicing and repairing solar systems. Most other companies have to pull workers from their install jobs to do services and repairs. Often, they aren’t able to respond as quickly, if at all, as we can. In some cases we even have people call us for service, cleanings or repairs of systems installed by other contractors. Making sure the customer feels they are taken care of is really important to us.”

Most solar panels have a warranty of at least 20 years. What happens if the company that did the install is no longer in business? Haleakala Solar is proud of the fact that they are one of the only companies to be around long enough back up an entire 20-25 year panel warranty.
