Corporate Anniversaries 2013: Associa Hawaii
Since the very beginning, Associa Hawaii’s commitment to customer service and hard work has been the cornerstone of its success. Since the company’s humble beginnings, the company has grown and expanded to adapt to the changing times, but its virtues remain central to the business today.
In May 1973, founders Alice and Robert Paris founded the A.R. Corporation and entered into the property management business. The company, which came to be known as Certified Management, quickly began establishing a reputation for excellence in the industry. Later in that decade, the company acquired the business of a local industry giant, consisting of roughly 50 properties across the state.
Not content to rest on its laurels, the company expanded its offerings to include rental management, development consulting, commercial management, reserve studies, covenants compliance, and site management. Demonstrating an early flair for outside-the-box thinking, the company pioneered a long list of industry firsts, such as offering online tools for customers to conveniently access account information.

Forty years on, with 145 employees now serving more than 400 properties statewide, Associa Hawaii is one of the leading management companies in the islands, backed by the strength of the nation’s largest association management company, Associa. Additionally, the company’s staff proudly holds more Professional Community Association Manager (PCAM) designations than any management company in the state.
In the spirit of ‘ohana, it’s about more than just business as usual. Associa Hawaii is proud to serve Hawaii and strives to make a positive impact in communities across Hawaii.
“It’s important for us to be the best community partner we can be,” says McKenna. “We make contributions to charities such as the Blood Bank of Hawaii and Hawaii Foodbank. Our annual charity golf tournament has raised more than $100,000 for Shriners Hospitals for Children.”
For Associa Hawaii, the definition of a truly successful company begins and ends at the core of the company - its employees. Each month, employees take time to celebrate one another at an office-wide birthday and anniversary party, a tradition that has been preserved through the years.
