American Savings Bank (ASB) has been voted one of Hawaii’s Best Places to Work by its employees for four consecutive years. ASB’s continued commitment to its employees has resulted in their solid dedication to their customers, their teammates and their communities and makes it the best place to bank!

What Matters Most:

Employee experience: Whether it’s birthday holidays, casual dress code, weekly paydays, generous paid time off, tuition assistance, training classes, or simply having fun at work, ASB wants employees to know they matter by providing a flexible, enjoyable work environment with challenging, rewarding career opportunities.

Well-being: The ASB LifeBalance program empowers employees to improve their lives, providing seminars and classes on topics ranging from personal health and family matters to financial wellness, as well as onsite fitness classes, massages, cooking demonstrations, health fairs, gym memberships and team sports activities.

Ideas: ASB believes a single idea is powerful enough to generate endless possibilities. That’s why ASB listens to its employees and takes their opinions to heart. Whether it’s through the online IdeaBank, Employee Excellence Council, open door policy or talk story sessions with executive management, employees have numerous venues to provide feedback, share ideas and work together.

Career development: ASB encourages employees at all levels to think like business owners and empowers them to be leaders. That’s why ASB invests in employees’ personal and professional growth and is vested in promoting from within. In addition to the tuition assistance program, ASB University offers training and educational opportunities – tools to move them along their desired career path while enhancing their leadership, technical and job skills.

Communities: For over 88 years, ASB employees have served Hawaii’s communities with their hands and hearts. Through the Seeds of Service program, employees have volunteered over 12,500 hours of community service. They are helping clean up the environment, assisting people in need, and sprucing up local schools. ASB employees also donate their time and energy to supporting Hawaii’s schools through the Bank for Education program. This program awards money to local schools and funds financial literacy programs. And in 2012, employees pledged significant portions of their paychecks through Kahiau, ASB’s employee giving program, to support local community organizations.

Happiness: A positive work environment is the engine that drives ASB employees to work hard and play hard! Whether building volcanoes out of Legos, a weekend game of beach volleyball with teammates, participating in a company contest or celebrating success, having fun is very much a part of the ASB culture.

“At ASB, we believe that every teammate contributes to our being a great place to work,” said Beth Whitehead, Chief Administrative Officer. “Our goal is for our teammates to look forward to coming to work each day, to be energized by our work environment and to provide our customers with the best service possible.  After all,” she added, “you spend most of your life at work – why not have fun and enjoy it?”
