Commercial Roofing and Waterproofing Hawaii Inc.
A trusted resource for nearly 20 years, Commercial Roofing and Waterproofing Hawaii Inc. (CRW) has grown from a three-man specialty repair company to an 80-plus-employee, full-service roofing and waterproofing contractor. With operations in Hawaii, Guam and the Philippines, the team at CRW has developed a deep understanding of the various components that go into developing turnkey solutions for their customers.

“We understand the tapestry matrix that incorporates roofing, solar arrays, asset management and valuation, tax credits and subsidies, capital expenditure allocation, warranties and bonding capacities and finance parameters set by the IRS,” says Guy Akasaki, company president and founder. “CRW has brought to the forefront the convergence of disciplines that go beyond the roof as a capital expenditure and liability.”
What brought the company about in the first place? “We predicted that with the advent of Hawaii’s and the nation’s increasing fossil-fuel and electric rates that alternative energy systems would be in demand,” Akasaki says. So in response, CRW began promoting alternative energy solutions with new or reroofing projects. “Thus, integrated roofing solutions specific to Hawaii’s needs were created. In fact, CRW was the first Hawaii roofing company who made substantial efforts toward reducing a negative environmental impact in Hawaii through the use of solar photovoltaic energy.” In addition to being the No. 1 installer of Hydrostop in the islands, CRW has achieved Elite level status with several leading manufacturers having demonstrated excellence in their commitment to quality and the roofing industry. Integrating sustainable roofing solutions are imperative to this company and have contributed to their long standing track record of credibility, reliability and durability for the long haul.
Akasaki is a big advocate for going green, but he also advises consumers that simply doing so doesn’t always equate to something better. “It also has its downfalls if not planned properly by a licensed contractor who has a comprehensive understanding and is specifically trained in the world of roof repair, maintenance and PV installation.

CRW operates with a proven excellent reputation, and we are positioned to provide the full spectrum of roof installation and maintenance services on a larger scale.
And CRW does not just advocate energy-saving and cost-effective solutions for others. With a new, 25,000-square-foot corporate headquarters in West Oahu, CRW has installed a brand-new, roof-mounted system of its own. “We practice what we preach, and we turned our own roof into an asset,” Akasaki says.
Looking ahead, CRW will continue to research and develop key building applications that contribute to a reduced carbon footprint. “We will broaden our range of knowledge and experience throughout our team of professionals and industry partners,” Akasaki says. “We are moving into the next level of renewable energy and composite building envelopes to deliver 24/7 off-grid renewable energy alternatives that cater toward shaping a sustainable environment for today and for generations to come.”
