Top 250: Kama'aina Kids

Ray Sanborn, President and Mark Nishiyama, Vice President (Co-founders)

Kama‘aina Kids is honored to once again be amongst the Top 250 Companies listed in Hawaii Business Magazine. It is through the hard work and dedication of our 1,000 employees and the support of our parents of the children we serve that we have been able to grow from very humble beginnings to where we are now.

School Age and Preschool Programs

The company began with a group of 45 school aged children participating in a summer enrichment program at He‘eia State Park. From that humble beginning the company has grown to over 100 locations serving over 10,000 children each day. Our families are diverse and our locations operate on almost every island. We offer services to children ranging in age from 6 weeks old to 18+ years of age.

The preschool division supports the company with 24 preschools, 250 staff and 1,800 children. The school age division serves approximately 7,800 children and is comprised of 61 A+ locations, 5 private afterschool sites and numerous intersession and summer programs aimed at keeping kids focused and motivated while learning about the environment and themselves.

The company is rounded out by the hotel division which helps the children of those who visit Hawai‘i learn about our culture and what we have to offer. In addition, the hotel division operates programs in conjunction with the military and provides child care services while military parents are attending seminars and workshops prior to deployment.

Kama‘aina Kids was also awarded the management and operation of He‘eia State Park as a community gathering place which honors the culture of our state and holds in highest regard the beauty and importance of Kaneohe Bay.

Kama‘aina Kids celebrates its 25th anniversary this year and once again has been voted #1 in the Star Advertiser’s Hawaii’s Best readers’ poll. Kama‘aina Kids continues to provide support to the families and children we serve as we have developed and grown, helping to support our mission of serving children, families and our communities by providing ongoing quality education and enrichment programs to help build a sense of Self, Community and Environment.
