What our readers have to say
![]() |
Hawaii received two bottles of the Johnnie Walker Blue Label 1805 [featured in the December 2005 “5 things”]. One was picked up by the Halekulani and the other one went to Fujioka’s [Wine & Spirits]. I bought it for my husband, Mitchell, in celebration of his 52nd birthday. However, I want you to know I did not pay $27,000 and we are definitely NOT “filthy rich”, although some might argue the back seat of my car (where my kids sit) is filthy, period.

NO RED FLAGS HERE
If you were given this assignment [December 2006, “Dining with Dave: Red (Flag) China,” on P.F. Chang’s] thinking you were reviewing just another Chinese restaurant then someone has misled you. I was born and raised in Hawaii and have lived here for 64 years and have eaten in all types of Asian restaurants here on Oahu and the Neighbor Islands. If I want Chinese food I will go to one of my old standbys namely Golden Duck.
My wife and I frequent P. F. Chang’s often because of the close proximity to our residence and truly enjoyed the food, the service and cleanliness and friendliness of the staff, something that is lacking in some of our quote local based restaurants.
Every time we have been to P. F.’s the restaurant is crowded so they must be doing something right, which you don’t seem to give them any credit for. I found your criticism to be slightly biased, especially for a magazine that is supposed to support “Hawaii Business.” I think they are a fresh addition to our dining choices in Honolulu and am happy to hear they will be opening a 2nd restaurant in Waikiki.

HEALTH, FAMILY, THEN WORK
Your [December 2006 "Nota Bene"] about balancing life was well done and very timely. Although I don't have any solutions for you I wanted to tell you that I have labored over the same issues countless times and have always come up with the same outcome…your health, your family and then your work. This is how I prioritize my life to maintain some sort of balance. In fact we also preach these priorities at our firm. No matter what generation you represent (Boomers to Gen Y) everyone seems to understand these priorities.

SIGN ME UP
I was just in my doctor’s waiting room glancing through the Nov 2006 issue of Hawaii Business and noticed that you mentioned or featured many of my colleagues and contemporaries, including my energetic law partner Louise Ing, Lea Hong, the new head of the Trust for Public Land, and designer Anne Namba. Most of the articles seemed to have some connection with what I do or people I know. I’m ashamed to admit that I haven’t picked up Hawaii Business for a few years but after seeing how relevant it is to my work and my interests, I’m ready to subscribe. Sign me up!
