LIFE LESSONS
When Maui writer Jill Engledow worked at the Hawaii Community Foundation more than five years ago, she overheard an executive complain that high-tech companies spend thousands of dollars to recruit and move skilled workers from the Mainland, only to see them leave Hawaii after a year or so.Shortly thereafter, Engledow put together an orientation class for newcomers to Maui, which eventually became a seminar and then a book, Maui 101: Your Guide to Island Life. This month, Maui Island Press releases Island Life 101: A Newcomer’s Guide to Hawaii, an expanded version that covers all the Islands. The book is a quick primer to all things Hawaii.
Don’t worry, there won’t be a test.
