Dirk Koeppenkastrop and his wife, Nicole Lueker, founded Il Gelato Hawaii in September 2010 with the motto, “We want to make people happy.” They must have succeeded, because every week Koeppenkastrop uses high-quality ingredients to create more than 1,300 gallons of gelato and sorbet. Their desserts can be found at upscale restaurants such as Roy’s, Azure and the Pacific Club, and at Whole Foods and Foodland Farms in Aina Haina. The company also sells direct to the public three days a week. Go to ilgelato-hawaii.com for times and location. Your biggest problem may be choosing from the company’s 95 flavors — everything from lychee to beer.
