Corporate Anniversaries 2014: DCK Pacific Construction
dck pacific employees put their hearts both into their work and into giving back to the community...they are the “Pride of the Pacific”.
In 2014, dck pacific construction will celebrate 75 years in Hawaii. Over that time it has been known by various names, but the word “Pacific” was always at its core and Hawaii always its home. If you look around Hawaii, you are likely to see the work of dck pacific construction, the company that spells its name in small letters but has made a big impact in the Islands.
You’ll see its dynamic, award winning building efforts in schools, hospitals, resorts, retail, military facilities and other structures across the Honolulu skyline and Pacific Rim.
dck pacific construction began in 1939 as Pacific Construction and since then it has been part of the Islands’ amazing growth. It is a subsidiary of dck worldwide, a global construction company that provides innovative building solutions and specializes in complex projects. Operating in the Caribbean, Middle East, North America and across the Pacific, dck worldwide is capable of managing the entire construction process from conception, financing, planning and designing through construction.
Eric Tessem, dck pacific senior vice president and general manager, believes that while the company is known for its buildings, it would not be the success story it is today without an ohana of employees who put their hearts both into their work and into giving back to the community.
“dck pacific construction’s home is Hawaii and Island people are its family, friends and neighbors,” Tessem said. While the company is enjoying a wealth of projects today, it hasn’t always been that way. “Our diverse portfolio of projects has sustained us through some tough economic times,” Tessem said. “Our focus on military projects over the past 13 years, while keeping a presence in the private market, has made dck pacific one of Hawaii’s largest local contractors.”
With the economy improving and a new Hawaii building boom underway, dck pacific is now involved in a number of high-profile projects including The Queen’s Medical Center West Oahu renovation, International Market Place in Waikiki, Kapiolani Medical Center NICU-PICU building, Target Store Kailua, Walgreens Keeaumoku flagship store, South Range Grow the Army Complex at Schofield Barracks, and Hawaiian Airlines Aircraft Maintenance & Cargo Complex.
“We consider our people the ‘Pride of the Pacific,’” Tessem said. “Our more than 275 employees are the face of the company. They give their best whether they are working on a small commercial renovation or building a complex military facility. Our clients respect their professionalism and spirit, and we are proud of them all.
