What our readers have to say
More Than One Architect
![]() |
It was a great surprise to see my face on the cover of Hawaii Business. I was happy to see the entire issue was devoted to the environment and impressed with the diversity of our state’s businesses devoted to “greening” Hawaii. It was evident from your “Green is Good” issue that it takes all of us to get the job done.
Just like the numerous and faceted sectors of business and society that make sustainability possible in our state, it takes more than one architect to design a complex building. I was not the sole designer of the buildings mentioned in the article about me. Successful architectural projects are conceived and carried out by a group of skilled architects, interior designers and engineers that make up a project team. Ferraro Choi, in many cases, will include other architects and specialty consultants from as far away as Canada and Alaska to deliver an award-winning project.
I’m particularly proud to be on the cover of this special Green issue of Hawaii Business.

Sustainability Makes Sense
The June 2007 “Green Is Good” issue has me smiling. It was wonderful to read how the business sector is publicly celebrating sustainability. As Scott Radway’s cover story reveals, sustainability makes superb business sense by addressing cost savings and, just as importantly to long-term prosperity, by aiding the recruitment and retention of skilled workers.
The comments the Hawaii 2050 Sustainability Task Force has received from business leaders about the importance of sustainability to younger workers mirror those in the article. More and more, employees choose to work at companies that reflect their personal values. And for many people, the sustainability ethic is becoming a core belief for themselves and their families.
It is a trend that bodes well for creating a better future of our Islands, which is at the heart of the Hawaii 2050 Sustainability Plan that the Task Force is creating. The draft sustainability plan will be premiered on Sept. 22 at the Hawaii 2050 Sustainability Summit at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. After that exciting day, the community – including the business sector – will be invited to provide their comments on the draft before it is revised and submitted to the Legislature.
We hope that by 2008, everyone will be smiling about Hawaii’s preferred future.
