Room at the Top
Clint Arnoldus The long white curtains are drawn, letting in the light and energy of downtown Honolulu. King Street bustles three stories below Clint Arnoldus' office. The Central Pacific Bank chief executive officer - the bank's first non-Japanese CEO - has managed to give his office décor a personal touch. However, he still plans to remodel it to give it an Island feeling, which he says is more his style.
"It's always nice to see a little bit of what you're about around you as you do your daily job," Arnoldus says. The "bits" of what he's about line the floor-to-ceiling shelves that stand against the back of his downtown office. As Arnoldus speaks of what's important to him, there is a common denominator - loyalty. It's in the photo of his six children, nine grandchildren and wife of 35 years. It's in the stuffed animal collies - Alex, the bank's "loyalty officer" - scattered around the office. It's in the framed American flag that sits on his shelf, a flag his son received when he became an Eagle Scout. Arnoldus keeps it in his office as a family memento, but also to "get my perspective right, so much of what we accomplish is because we have the opportunities that exist in America." |
