The high-tech ride is built around an EPS (expanded polystyrene) foam core instead of a PU (polyurethane) one, the building block for most surfboards. An EPS core is not only lighter and more durable than a PU one, it also is more flex-ible and less toxic. In addition, the foam is covered in a skin of high-density com-posites that are sealed with epoxy resins, which are stronger and emit about 2 percent of the VOCs (Volatile Organic Compound) that polyurethane resins do.
