Q&A with Susan Murray

Q: When will The Queen’s Medical Center – West O‘ahu open?

A: The hospital will open in the spring under the leadership of Susan Murray, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

Q: Why did Queen’s decide to open a new hospital?

A: QMC – West O‘ahu is located in the heart of the fastest growing region on the island, and will provide faster care for medical emergencies and general hospital services for area residents close to home. It will also support community physicians with consultation from Queen’s specialists.

Q: How will QMC – West O‘ahu be different from the Hawai‘i Medical Center that previously occupied the building?

A: QMC – West O‘ahu will be a completely new hospital, not a renovation of the previous one. Core services will include emergency and basic inpatient services, such as Surgery, Imaging, General Medicine, Respiratory Therapy, Inpatient Rehabilitation, and more. All services will be supported and backed by The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. The Emergency Room will be three times larger than the previous one, and there will be four operating rooms and two endoscopy suites. Surgical procedures will include Orthopedics, GI, Urology, Ophthalmology, GYN, and general surgery.
