Room at the Top
Steve MacMillan "It's intended to be informal," Steve MacMillan says of his Kapolei office, "that's my style." The Campbell Estate chief executive officer's style includes soft leather sofas, cornering the left side of the room. His dark wood furniture mirrors the art placed on the surfaces, and framed black and white photos of his sons hang under the light of a lamp. The textured, Kelly Sueda bamboo forest covers the wall above his credenza.
With an abundance of art in his personalcollection, MacMillan likes to circulate pieces in and out of his office to change the environment. With the wall behind his desk made entirely of glass, the view of the Kapolei community is another ever-changing feature of the office. Community involvement is another facet of his style. About a half-dozen oo sticks, used for groundbreaking ceremonies for Campbell Estate projects, stand in the corner of his office. Each tapered stick of wood is wrapped with an engraved gold nameplate: Kapolei Shopping Center, the Bank of Hawaii building, Whaler's Village and Kmart. "We work in this community, we do our business in this community and we contribute to this community," MacMillan says, looking out at another Campbell Estate project, Kapolei Regional Park. "It's very satisfying to watch it grow." |
