Knead a Massage?
KNEAD A MASSAGE?
![]() |
Ancient Hawaiians used the lomi stick as a simple but effective massage tool. It works by placing the “knob,” located on the short end of the stick, directly onto a sore muscle in the back or neck. Then, holding onto the long side of the stick, pull forward to create steady pressure on the affected area. The feeling is similar to that of shiatsu or a deep-tissue massage. The lomi stick is great for eliminating knots.
Retired physical therapist Thomas Kim crafts modern-day lomi sticks out of guava wood, which he cuts, sands and finishes. The sticks cost about $45. For more information, call 373-9216.
