Our Environmental & Cultural Resources Law Group helps clients solve complex legal problems involving environmental and cultural resources.

Combined, we have over 70 years of experience in environmental, land use and cultural resources law throughout Hawai‘i. The group members include some of Hawai‘i’s foremost authorities in these areas.

Paul Alston [not pictured] has successfully represented industry, public and private sector clients in environmental matters for decades. Lea Hong has been recognized by her peers as one of the best environmental lawyers in Hawai‘i year after year. William Tam has practiced and taught land and natural resources law for 25 years and co-authored Hawai‘i’s Water Code.

David Forman serves on the PASH Study Group and helped write a report on Native Hawaiian Reconciliation for the Hawai‘i Advisory Committee to the U.S.Commission on Civil Rights. Douglas Codiga teaches international environmental law and other environmental law courses at the William S. Richardson School of Law. Peter Knapman and Isaac Moriwake have earned Environmental Law Certificates from the William S. Richardson School of Law and have clerked for the Hawai‘i Supreme Court.

Environmental and cultural resources issues present unique challenges. Our group works collaboratively with businesses, Native Hawaiian organizations, large coalitions, and local communities. If negotiations and collaboration fail, we are at home in mediation, arbitration and state and federal court.We have helped clients solve problems involving solid and hazardous waste, underground storage tanks, oil spill prevention, environmental assessments and impact statements, clean water, water rights, wastewater, storm water, safe drinking water, wetlands, land use and development, conservation and agricultural districts, zoning, endangered species, coastal zone management, cultural and historic resources, Native Hawaiian rights, burials, and access.
