American Carpet One hung its shingle in 1974 with five employees and 1,000 square feet of showroom space. Now, 41 years later, the company has grown to over 100 employees, 65,000 square feet of carpet and flooring options—everything from laminates and hardwood to natural stone and ceramic tiles—and has earned the title of one of the best places to work in Hawaii.

“We grew by providing exceptional customer service, quality products, and professional installation services,” says David K. Arita, President. “Our customers get to enjoy our products for years and often even decades, so it’s important that we do our best work possible from start to finish. Our team really takes that seriously and does a great job of providing our customers with just what they need.”

Company leadership focuses on investing heavily in its people, technology, and professional development opportunities. One of its latest and most exciting initiatives will make employees owners in the company with a newly launched employee stock ownership plan (ESOP). “We’re very happy to be able to provide this wonderful benefit for our team,” says Arita. “We’ve been working on the ESOP for several years now, and we know that it will provide a lot of value to our group and help them to prepare for their retirement years.”

Always growing, Arita and his team are ever on the look out for great people in the areas of sales, management, installation, customer service, and warehousing. “We feel very fortunate to touch about 10,000 people and their homes and offices each year,” Arita says. “Even with 41 years under our belt, we still see opportunities for growth, and, I believe, the best years are still in front of us.”
