It’s a Jungle Out There

A Maui company fuses technology with nature to create new, unusual products.

July, 2007

For the past few years, a Maui company has fused technology with nature to create nutraceutical products. The company, Bioponic Phytoceuticals (OTC:BPYT), is located in an 18,000-square-foot office comprised of agriculture space, laboratories and distribution/packaging rooms. The company’s patented Airponic Growing System (AGS) allows plants to grow in an oxygen- and nutrient-rich environment. Its hydrodistillation method collects steam from heated plant materials, which is then used to make products. Here are some of those products:

Liquid Essence
Spray this product directly onto foods to enhance their taste. That’s the idea behind Liquid Essence, which comes in more than 20 flavors, including lemongrass, ginger, blueberry, pineapple and oregano. Liquid Essence is made in the company’s Maui lab using a hydrodistillation process. An aromatherapy line called Liquid Sense is also made via hydrodistillation, but is used for skin care and fragrances.

Flight Spray
Recycling is great for the environment. But not when it comes to recycled airplane cabin air, which can trigger allergies and colds. Flight Spray – made from turmeric and spearmint – alleviates symptoms by moistening nasal passages and relieving congestion. Spray it into your nose before, during and after the flight, and feel the difference.

Curecumin
Curcumin (an agent found in turmeric root) potentially stops the growth of skin cancer cells. Mice with cystic fibrosis were successfully treated with curcumin. And other research has proven curcumin to aid digestive disorders and liver disease. Bioponic’s formula, cleverly named “Curecumin,” is a blend of Maui-grown turmeric root and distilled water. Curecumin comes in a nasal spray and in a liquid version that can be applied to the skin.

Throat Note
The next time you are scheduled to make a speech, spray the inside of your mouth with Throat Note. One spritz lubricates the lining of your throat and soothes irritated vocal chords. The active ingredients in Throat Note read like a spice rack: cinnamon, clove, turmeric root, chamomile, aloe, noni leaf, lilikoi and uhaloa, a traditional plant used for respiratory ailments.

Hawaiian Healing Mist
When summer temperatures rise, so do skin ailments. Hawaiian Healing Mist relieves symptoms caused by insect bites, burns, rashes and itching. The powerful ingredients in Hawaiian Healing Mist are noni leaf, lilikoi, turmeric root, cloves, chamomile and aloe.
