Meadow Gold Dairies Hawai‘i traces its roots to June 1897 when seven O‘ahu dairy farms created a single entity to develop a stronger presence in the marketplace and community.  The hui, or organization, was called the Dairymen’s Association.

This collaboration stimulated business growth through the support of its customers and the community.  The hui evolved into a formal company, the Honolulu Dairymen’s Association, Limited on May 12, 1900.

With a foundation built through collaboration, innovation, evolution, and community support, the organization maintained those cornerstones throughout its history.  Beginning in the early 1900’s it invested in state-of-the-art technologies featuring the newest laboratory testing, and processing, production and packaging efficiencies.  These innovations helped them lead the Hawai‘i dairy industry and assist the Territory of Hawai‘i with writing milk sanitation laws.

During the late 1800’s and early 1900’s Dairymen’s Association Limited’s milk products were delivered by horse-drawn carriages throughout Honolulu.

Constantly seeking to improve and enhance its business led to dynamic growth.  Its acquisition in 1953 by Beatrice Foods, a diversified US food corporation whose dairy products sold under the Meadow Gold label, empowered the Dairymen’s Association to diversify its product portfolio.  In 1959 the Dairymen’s Association became Meadow Gold Dairies Hawai‘i.

Community commitment and support grew alongside the business.  Since 1949 Lani Moo, the company’s aloha ambassador, has educated the community about the health and nutrition benefits of dairy consumption.  To this day Meadow Gold Dairies Hawai‘i maintains its commitment and support of important community initiatives focused towards children, health, nutrition, and education.

The company has partnered with and supported numerous organizations and activities, including AYSO Hawai‘i since 1974; University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa’s Rainbow Invitational Marching Band Festival since 1979; Children’s Discovery Center; Honolulu Zoo; American Heart Association; Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital; Maui Memorial Medical Center; Kona Community Hospital; and Hilo Medical Center.

Meadow Gold Dairies Hawai‘i has proudly served Hawai‘i for 117 years through the integrity and perseverance of thousands of employees.  Today more than 350 employees operate manufacturing facilities in Honolulu and Hilo, and distribution facilities in Honolulu, Lihue, Kahului, Kona, Waimea, and Hilo.  It remains steadfastly committed to manufacturing and distributing superior quality products and offering diversified services for its customers, partners, and Hawai‘i’s families.
