Hawai‘i businesses are affected by roundups and arrests conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. Across the country, I.C.E. has broadened its arrests beyond violent criminals to any undocumented residents, including those who may be employed and those going through the process to attain legal status. Reports have shown that raids by heavily armed and masked agents have swept up documented and nonviolent immigrants, as well as some American citizens, with little due process to extract themselves from the dragnet.
Hawaii Business Magazine recognizes that companies in the Islands have an interest in knowing where the crackdowns are taking place and may affect their workforce. In an effort to increase transparency, HBM is setting up this site for companies and others to report sightings of I.C.E. agents in the state, whether at business offices, restaurants, hotels, parking lots, farms, courthouses or on the street.
