Atlas Insurance Agency
“Hawaii is not just a place where we do business,
Hawaii is our home.”
Atlas Insurance believes it is important to live up to this motto. Founded in 1929, Atlas Insurance is Hawaii’s largest insurance agency with offices on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island. Atlas believes that a successful business requires a staff of happy, motivated, professional people, all with the same mission in mind. By participating in the Best Places to Work survey every year, it provides valuable feedback from staff on areas their agency can address and make improvements.
“We believe business should be about people and we’ve made strides to ensure that’s a part of our culture. If you take care of your employees and clients, the numbers will take care of themselves. Our leaders continually look for ways to enrich our employees’ growth, knowledge and opportunities in many unique ways.” says Myles Murakami, President of Atlas Insurance.
To continually have happy employees year after year, Atlas practices its mantra of “work hard, play hard” and knows how to have fun. It’s all about work life balance. Atlas has key committees such as the Office Activities and Healthy Employees Achieve Results Together (HEART) Committees which take the lead in planning company events and activities that help build company culture. The mission of these committees is really to help the agency build and invest in the employee’s overall wellbeing. Examples of events include: Healthy Blending (where employees make healthy smoothies or soups), Movie Day (when the office closes and employees are treated to an afternoon of movies and treats), Healthy Meals prepared by guest chefs, HMSA/Healthway’s Blue Zone project, monthly Farmer’s Market, Annual Holiday Party and many other activities & events throughout the year. Atlas also participates in numerous community fundraising events throughout the year.
In 2014, Atlas Insurance was awarded the Hawaii Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award for medium businesses. This award recognized Atlas for their excellence in psychological health in the workplace.
“Work life Balance is very important. What makes me the proudest is the fact that Atlas employees will always work hard and voluntarily give their time for our events and activities. That’s why we always try to give back to our employees. It all comes back to our motto, Hawaii is not just a place where we do business, Hawaii is our home.” says Myles Murakami.
