East meets West in Startup Paradise

October, 2014

Local investors and entrepreneurs will meet and learn from their counterparts in Asia and the mainland at a conference next month in Honolulu.

“This event is an opportunity to bring new investments to the local startup community. It’s also an excellent chance for Hawaii’s entrepreneurs and business leaders to network and build partnerships across the region,” says Meli James, president of the Hawaii Venture Capital Association and program manager at Blue Startups.

The East Meets West startup conference is scheduled for Nov. 5 to 7 at the Hawaii Convention Center and the Modern hotel.

One theme is “digital lifestyle – the innovative and disruptive ways in which technology complements all facets of daily living,” James says.

She says speakers will talk about how to enter new markets worldwide, entice investors and stay competitive. Experts will also discuss the best ways to make crosscultural and crossborder investments. And local investors who have never been angel investors will get a chance to learn best practices for that potentially lucrative field and hear pitches from a select group of startup companies.
