Maryknoll School

April, 2015

15-April-Maryknoll-01Being the largest Catholic School in the state of Hawaii gives Maryknoll exciting opportunities to both lead and be led.  Cultivating and identifying school leaders and premiere educators is necessary to ensure the ongoing health of our profession and school. A Maryknoll school leader not only tends to the needs of today, but plans for the future of all students and programs. Maryknoll develops strong leaders who constantly strengthen their skills and abilities through mentoring, professional development, and continued education.

The educational philosophy of Maryknoll School is grounded in the value of caring teachers and the connection with the young Maryknoll mind. Our philosophy of education rests first on authentic caring for each student.   The Maryknoll faculty and staff embrace each individual student in a nurturing, mutually respectful, and caring relationship, appreciating each student’s desire to be a leader, igniting their future dreams, and nurturing their innovative and entrepreneurial spirits. The power of a caring teacher and the view of seeing all students as individuals, to be nurtured as emerging leaders and citizens of high character, is our guiding philosophy that ultimately advances academic performance for all students.

Maryknoll students are encouraged to research, understand, and apply creative solutions to challenges that they face in our community and world today.   Real-world challenges are presented to students in a way that only a hands-on integrated, core-curricular school, like Maryknoll, can achieve.

Our school motto, Noblesse Oblige, means, “to whom much is given, much is expected.”  This belief is the fabric that all Maryknoll School programs are built on. Perhaps the largest benefit that a Maryknoll student receives from their time here is the satisfaction of learning to incorporate service into their daily lives and to make a difference in their school, church, community, and country.

When Maryknoll students volunteer their time and talents, they solve problems, strengthen communities, improve lives, connect to others, develop their faith, and transform their own lives. This is what we want all of our students to experience. We are proud to create 21st century learners, leaders and global citizens of character.
