What’s Your Assessment of the Governor and Your Mayor?
Respondents in both the BOSS Survey of business owners and executives and the 808 Poll of the general population were asked to rate Gov. Josh Green in four areas. They were also asked to assess the performance of their county mayor.

Respondents were asked to choose from four assessments in each area: great (worth 4 points), good(3 points), so-so (2) and awful (1). An average score was then calculated. To achieve a perfect average score of 4.0, the governor or mayors would have to have received “great”assessments from all respondents; 1.0 is the lowest average score possible, and would happen ifeveryone answered “awful.”
In each of these assessments the results are similar, whether all respondents’ scores are counted (asshown) or only those of registered voters (not shown).
As you see in the charts, business owners and executives were mostly harsher on average in theirassessments of each politician’s performance than the general public.

Neighbor Island Mayors
In both the Boss Survey of Business Owners and Executives, and the 808 Poll of the general public, the number of people surveyed on Kaua’i, Maui and Hawai’i Island were insufficient to providestatistically valid results. The samples in each survey ranged from as low as 18 people – that was onKaua’i, the least populated among the four most populated Islands – and as many as 71.
I struggled with whether to report the numbers or not. In the end, after checking with Editor-in-Chief Jennifer Ablan, I chose to publish them. My rationale is that publicly available data like this is rarely available for the Neighbor Islands, so I want residents there to see the numbers even though – I repeat– the sample sizes are insufficient to provide statistically valid results.
