Like many businesses, Off The Hook Poke Market started with a passionate idea and a unique vision: to serve the freshest, most delicious poke in Hawai‘i.
For JP Lam and Tomoki Ito, two foodies with a background in Japanese cuisine, they decided to pursue their dreams right at the source: before sunrise at the fish auction.
Little did they know that two chefs with a love of ahi couldn’t just walk right into the auction and purchase that morning’s catch of fresh, delicious tuna.
Fortunately, a friendly uncle who was a regular at the auction took them under his wing and helped them fulfill their dream: to serve hand-crafted, artisanal poke caught that very same day.
That was back in 2018. The rest, as they say, is history. (Delicious history!)
Ever since, Off The Hook Poke Market has established itself as one of the best poke spots in Hawai‘i, winning an ‘Ilima Award in 2019 for Best Seafood Restaurant.
Of course, JP and Tomo credit much of their success to their dedicated team, who work tirelessly to transform hundreds of pounds of fresh ahi into mouth-watering poke every single day.
That team includes Ester Sisson and the rest of the staff at the Bank of Hawai‘i branch in Mānoa located right across the street. Ester and her team have helped Off The Hook Poke Market with all their banking needs and even helped grow their business – as big fans of their cold ginger ahi!
