Pural Water: Powering Invisible Infrastructure
From family roots to employee ownership, Pural Water has built its reputation on technical excellence, long-term partnerships and a people-first culture - quietly keeping Hawai‘i’s most essential systems running.

Every day, clean water flows reliably through Hawai‘i’s homes, hospitals, hotels and high-rises. And behind much of it is a company that has become indispensable: Pural Water.
“We focus on the unseen but critical work,” says Ian Ichimura, president of Pural Water. “If we’re doing our job right, everything just works.”
That commitment has defined the company since its founding in 1988 by Earl Ichimura, whose passion for water systems – and responsiveness to customer needs – laid the groundwork for what would become one of Hawai‘i’s most trusted water solutions providers.
What began as a niche operation has grown into a multifaceted business offering more than 15 specialized services, from potable and nonpotable water system operations to industrial chemical treatment, boiler service and complex pipe work such as hot tapping and valve insertion.
But technical capability alone doesn’t explain Pural Water’s success. Its true differentiator is cultural.
For more than three decades, the company operated as a family business shaped by the values of Earl and his wife, co-founder Allison Ichimura. In 2024, Pural Water transitioned to a 100% employee-owned company through an employee stock ownership plan – an evolution that deepened those founding principles.
“Every employee has a direct stake in our success,” says Ichimura. “That creates a level of accountability, pride and long-term thinking you can see in how we serve our clients and support each other.”
That ownership mindset supports a diverse clientele that includes federal, state and county agencies, contractors, consultants, hospitals, hotels, condominiums and office buildings.
Equally central to the company’s growth is its commitment to partnerships. In a world frequently driven by short-term contracts, Pural Water has built its reputation on relationships that span decades. “We’re not chasing quick wins,” Ichimura explains. “We’re investing in people and solutions that will serve Hawai‘i well into the future.”
Looking ahead, Pural Water aims to expand its specialized services responsibly, invest in workforce development, and strengthen its role as a trusted partner to communities, utilities and regulators.
Ichimura’s vision is clear: To make Pural Water Hawai‘i’s go-to provider for water-related solutions. That’s not only for technical excellence, but for leadership, innovation and community impact, he says.
For a company that operates largely behind the scenes, Pural Water’s influence runs deep – ensuring that across the Islands, an essential resource continues to flow safely and reliably, every single day.
