Access to quality medical care in West O‘ahu continues to grow as The Queen's Healthy Systems expands its facilities and services with the goal of keeping the community healthy.
New Emergency Bay
The Emergency Department at The Queen’s Medical Center – West Oʻahu is the second busiest in the state, after Queen’s – Punchbowl. To accommodate higher patient volumes, Queen’s – West Oʻahu opened a new ambulance bay in April. The facility was enlarged from three to six ambulance stalls, the main entryway was expanded, and a dedicated security office was added.
A new, specially equipped gurney for stroke patients also improves patient flow by fast-tracking critical individuals straight to CT imaging, making for quicker diagnoses and treatment.
“This continued Emergency Department expansion will help ensure that our patients can receive comprehensive care closer to home, which can minimize travel and support better health outcomes in the process,” says Robin Kalohelani, senior vice president and COO at Queen’s – West Oʻahu and Queen’s – Wahiawā.
New Cancer Infusion Clinic
In July, the new Cancer Infusion Clinic was opened at Queen’s – West Oʻahu. This 2,500-square-foot expansion includes eight treatment bays allowing for 2,300 additional treatments per year, along with two private rooms and two fast-track bays designed for efficiency and to reduce wait times. Plus, the larger floor plan is designed to better accommodate patients and their families.
“Patients will experience high quality, compassionate care with stunning mountain views and panoramic sights spanning from ʻEwa to Diamond Head, making it a true healing environment with aloha,” Kalohelani says.
Gastroenterology Services / Colon Screening Awareness
The Direct Access Screening Program and Same Day Surgery Center at Queen’s – West Oʻahu focus on early detection and prevention of colon cancer. The center streamlines the procedural process and provides state-of-the-art endoscopy facilities for highly accurate diagnostic results and a comfortable patient experience, says Kalohelani, who adds that “earlier detection dramatically improves outcomes as Stage 1 colon cancer has a 90%-plus survival rate according to the National Cancer Institute.”
For patient convenience, the center offers colon screenings Monday through Saturday.
Queen’s – Wahiawā New CT Scanner
The Emergency Department at Queen’s – Wahiawā has also expanded services and technology.
In October 2025, a new CT scanner was installed in a fully renovated CT room inside the ED. It delivers faster, more efficient, and higher-quality imaging with lower radiation exposure.
Ongoing renovations to the ED will expand the waiting room and registration area and increase the number of treatment rooms from 16 to 25.

Queen’s – Kahi Mohala
The Queen’s Medical Center – Kahi Mohala is Hawaiʻi’s only hospital-based residential program for youths age 4 to 17.
In October 2025, the facility celebrated its first anniversary as part of The Queen’s Health Systems. To help address statewide provider shortages, Queen’s – Kahi Mohala now hosts multidisciplinary clinical training rotations for fellows, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, and psychologists.
Over the next decade, behavioral health services will continue to expand, as will community education, outreach, and partnerships to increase awareness of behavioral health resources and improve access to care.
