Capitol Modern: the Hawai‘i State Art Museum is a free public art museum within the Art in Public Places Program of the Hawai‘i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts.

As a part of this public art program, the museum features exhibitions curated from the State’s Art in Public Places Collection and from student exhibitions.

The museum is in the No. 1 State Capitol Building, near the State Capitol, ‘Iolani Palace, and the State Library. Admission is always free. Wednesday–Saturday, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., with evening hours during First Friday and other events.

The Hawai‘i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts (SFCA), a government agency administratively attached to the Department of Accounting and General Services (Hawaii Revised Statutes Chapter 9), was established by the Hawai‘i State Legislature in 1965, to promote, perpetuate, preserve and encourage culture and the arts, history and the humanities as central to the quality of life of the people of Hawai‘i. SFCA funding is provided by the state of Hawai‘i and the National Endowment for the Arts.
