Keeping Hawai‘i Healthy 2026 – HMSA

Founded by social workers in 1938, HMSA is Hawaii’s most experienced health plan, now covering nearly 1 million people with the addition of TRICARE, the uniformed services health care program for service members, retirees, and their families. HMSA partners with employers and providers to promote wellness, offer competitive health plans, and support members with quality care. Caring for the people of Hawaii is our promise and our privilege.
As HMSA looks toward the future, we remain committed to our core foundation of providing high-quality care while working across the health care system to lower costs and support our health plans’ long-term affordability and sustainability. This year, we began sharing our innovative approach to health care, which aims to generate substantial, lasting value for the community. Members and employers can continue to rely on us for:
- Our focus on health care solutions that improve efficiency and affordability.
- Quality care from Hawaii’s top-rated hospitals, clinics, doctors, and other health care providers.
- Convenient care options that go beyond the emergency room, such as participating urgent care clinics and pharmacies statewide.
- Health and well-being resources such as Island Scene magazine, HMSA’s quarterly member magazine and website, islandscene.com.
The spring issue of Island Scene magazine is now available. Read the cover story, “Never Quit Dreaming,” about children with disabilities finding confidence and community in sports. Plus, enjoy local stories about the University of Hawaii at Manoa Rainbow Warrior Marching Band, support for maternal mental health, and Hawaii residents who move to the Mainland and find their way home.
Got lilikoi (passion fruit)? Island Scene wouldn’t be the same without recipes, which include roasted chicken with lilikoi glaze and a lilikoi chia seed pudding in the spring issue.
