Shidler College Hosts 64th Annual Business Night, Honoring Student Achievement
Nearly 500 students and professionals gathered to celebrate mentorship and student excellence

The Shidler College of Business at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa hosted its 64th annual Business Night on May 8 at the Sheraton Waikiki. The event brought together nearly 500 students and business professionals for an evening of mentorship, recognition, and networking.
With strong support from alumni and the local business community, 52 sponsored awards totaling $98,500 were presented to outstanding undergraduate and graduate students. A committee of Shidler students organized the event, which pairs students with professional mentors whose experience aligns with their career goals. This year’s theme, “First Class Futures: Elevating Tomorrow’s Leaders,” resonated throughout the evening’s program.
“This year’s event celebrates the perseverance and development of Shidler students as they advance in their academic and career paths,” said Kaedin Okimoto, executive director of the Business Night committee. “We extend our gratitude to the committee, Shidler faculty, sponsors, and mentors for making this event possible.”
The keynote speaker, AJ Halagao MBA ’04, president of the Hawaiʻi Leadership Forum, shared his inspiring journey of resilience and self-belief. He emphasized the importance of perseverance and embracing setbacks as opportunities for growth.
Dean Vance Roley expressed appreciation for the mentors, sponsors, and alumni, stating, “Business Night is a powerful reminder of our students’ potential and the unwavering support from Hawaiʻi’s business community.”
Title sponsor First Insurance Company of Hawaii (FICOH) marked its 20th consecutive year supporting the event, while Hawaii Business magazine continued as media sponsor for the ninth year.
