The Best Workplaces Don’t Just Hire Top Talent, They Grow It.
At American Savings Bank, career growth can mean moving up, moving across functions, or taking a completely different path.

American Savings Bank’s culture of internal mobility and development has helped teammates build meaningful careers across the organization. With a 65% wahine workforce and women making up nearly half of its executive leadership team — including President and CEO Ann Teranishi, herself an internal promotion — ASB shows what can happen when talent is recognized, supported, and given room to grow.
Ann’s story is far from the only one. At ASB, the proof is in the people.

Dani Aiu congratulates a family on becoming homeowners through the State of Hawaii’s Hale Kamaʻāina Mortgage Program, with financing from ASB.
Dani Aiu, EVP of Consumer Banking, began her ASB career more than 30 years ago as a bank teller while in college. Over the years, she worked across nearly every branch and branch leadership role before stepping into broader leadership. When the EVP of Consumer Banking position opened, Aiu was ready, bringing decades of experience, relationships and perspective to the role.
Chrystal Leung, Director of Human Resources, started at ASB as a recruitment manager. After building credibility and relationships across the bank, she left to pursue an opportunity outside ASB. Years later, when a role with greater responsibility opened, ASB reached out. Leung returned to lead Talent Acquisition and, a few years later, was promoted to lead Human Resources.
Jamie Cheng, Director of Bank Operations, began in ASB’s Legal department before being asked to step into Operations. The move allowed her to apply her leadership, business judgment and ability to see the bigger picture in a new way, ultimately preparing her to lead Bank Operations.
These career paths are different, but they share a common thread: opportunity. ASB invests in development, opens doors, and gives teammates opportunities to stretch through training, leadership programs, feedback, coaching, and mentorship.
The best workplaces don’t just hire talented people. They help them become what’s next.
