For HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union, charitable giving is rooted in relationships.

As the credit union celebrates its 90th anniversary, it continues to deepen its community involvement by pairing financial support with hands-on service, employee engagement and partnerships that respond to the needs of local organizations and families.

That approach is reflected in the launch of Kokua Community, HawaiiUSA’s newest community initiative supporting the small but vital groups that strengthen neighborhoods across the state. The program is designed for grassroots organizations such as youth sports teams, school clubs, halau, and other groups that often make a significant difference with limited resources.

Through Kokua Community, participating groups complete a service project that reflects their values and attend a HawaiiUSA financial education session. Upon completion, they receive $1,500 for participant-focused needs. The model brings together charitable support, community service and education while helping ease costs for local families.

That same emphasis on active participation extends to HawaiiUSA employees. In partnership with Palama Settlement’s Back to School Backpack Giveaway, employees helped fill 250 backpacks with more than $9,000 in school supplies, providing local students with classroom essentials to start the school year prepared and ready to learn.

HawaiiUSA has complemented this hands-on involvement with financial support for organizations addressing broader community needs. The credit union marked its 90th year with a $30,000 contribution to Hawaii Foodbank, part of a statewide credit union effort that collectively raised more than $90,000 to address food insecurity.

Education remains another important part of HawaiiUSA’s community investment. In 2026, it awarded higher education scholarships to 25 students, its largest group of recipients to date, while continuing other longstanding programs that support students and educators.

Together, these efforts reflect an approach to philanthropy that combines financial resources with time, service and collaboration. After nine decades in Hawaii, HawaiiUSA continues to invest in the communities that have shaped the credit union itself. For its members, that means being part of something bigger, a financial institution where the credit union philosophy of “people helping people” comes to life through partnerships that strengthen the communities they call home.
