The Home of Hawaii’s REALTORS® for 50 Years

There is nothing more valuable than local knowledge when it comes to real estate transactions and that is the specialty of a REALTOR®. Hawaii REALTORS® has been supporting local REALTORS® in the 50th State for the past 50 years. With a refreshed look, website and name Hawaii REALTORS® is celebrating five decades of advocacy, standard forms and professional development.

According to Hawaii REALTORS® Chief Executive Officer Nancy Donahue-Jones, the importance of a REALTOR® is not only in their experience as a real estate transaction specialist, but also their understanding of the community.

“The value of a REALTOR® is having industry experts on a local basis, helping you through the largest transaction of your life–financially. They know more about what’s happening in a community than anybody else,” says Donahue-Jones. “They are involved with everything. They are a great resource: they can tell you what super market to go to, or what schools are in the area. They are your asset in the transaction and I would not do any kind of real estate transaction without first consulting a REALTOR®. I want to know local information and they are the person I would go to.”

“Whether you’re going to be a leader in the real estate industry, your local Parent Teacher’s Association, or within your community, we groom you to take an active role in leadership and that is one of our greatest successes.”

– Susan Savage, HAR President

For the past 50 years, the three core functions of Hawaii REALTORS® is advocacy, standard forms and professional development. In addition to the value that Hawaii REALTORS® bring to buying or selling real estate, it’s the cultivation of their members’ professional development in their leadership skills that is a point of pride according to Susan Savage, 2017 President of Hawaii REALTORS®.

“Hawaii REALTORS® offers a powerful program called Leadership Academy, where we groom future leaders,” says Savage. “Whether you’re going to be a leader in the real estate industry, your local Parent Teacher’s Association, or within your community, we groom you to take an active role in leadership and that is one of our greatest successes.”

Regardless if a REALTOR® is considering leadership duties or not, one of the main benefits of belonging to Hawaii REALTORS® is the organization’s advocacy for its members and homeowners when it comes to legislation. Hawaii REALTORS® continuously represents property rights at the federal, state, and local levels.

Aside from HAR’s advocacy, Frank Goodale, Hawaii REALTORS® President-Elect, maintains that the organization’s Standard Forms make important contributions to Hawaii’s real estate industry. “As new advancements in technology, law and industry emerges, Hawaii REALTORS® designs forms to meet these changing needs. Hawaii REALTORS® creates and revises forms with the help of really awesome volunteers that serve on our Standard Forms Committee,” explains Goodale. “More than a dozen volunteers work tirelessly to ensure our library of forms remain current. If you’ve done a real estate transaction in the State of Hawaii, it’s highly likely that our forms have touched that transaction.”

The golden anniversary of Hawaii REALTORS® is a testament to the organization’s diligence and commitment to its members, inspiring praise on a national level.

“Hawaii REALTORS® is there to help agents, brokers and other real estate professionals succeed in their business while practicing the highest levels of ethics and excellence,” says 2017 President of the National Association of REALTORS® William E. As trends and technology change, REALTORS ® have remained ahead of the curve to continue providing the expert advice and counsel our clients and businesses depend on.”

“REALTORS® are members of the National Association of REALTORS® through their local associations. That connection is an important part of how we ensure REALTORS® are the voice for real estate in all communities. It’s also how we stay in touch with our membership and ensure the unique needs and concerns of individual markets are being met.”
