Share your story to help protect Medicaid

Alohacare Hero V4

In April, we celebrated Medicaid Awareness Month by expressing our gratitude to providers and raising awareness of its importance in our community. And we invited the public to help advocate by sharing a story from those who have been positively impacted by Medicaid.

AlohaCare is proud to continue collecting stories beyond April due to the protracted need to protect Medicaid funding. Your stories are powerful testimonies that will aid our committed elected officials and national associations to continue to advocate for sufficient federal funds for Hawaii.

Medicaid is a lifeline for anyone who needs healthcare and qualifies by income, household size and other factors. In Hawaii today, that’s over 400,000 residents across our islands.

Here’s who Medicaid can help:

  • Pregnant women and newborns (one-third of all births in the state)
  • Families
  • Children
  • Youth and young adults in foster care
  • College students
  • Caregivers who are needed at home to care for a loved one
  • Workers (over half of Americans on Medicaid work part- or full-time)
  • Those who are unable to work due to illness or disability

If you currently have Medicaid, it is important to know and use your benefits, including primary care, specialty care, prescription drugs, hospital care and more. Early detection is the best chance for a positive health outcome, and we encourage beneficiaries to get preventive care such as well-child visits, mammograms, colonoscopies and dental cleanings.

We invite anyone in Hawaii who has been touched by Medicaid — whether you have it now or have had it in the past, from keiki to kupuna — to share your story. Visit https://linktr.ee/sharemystory to submit your experience in writing or by video.

Your voice can help Medicaid continue to be there for those who need it most.
