HMSA celebrates its legacy and wahine making a difference

In 1938, a nurse named Margaret Catton proposed the creation of a nonprofit community-based organization to help pay for medical care. That organization became the Hawaii Medical Service Association or HMSA, which is now Hawaii’s most experienced health plan.
Today, 87 years later, the majority of the employees and executive leaders at HMSA are comprised of women, committed to carrying on the legacy started by Catton. In addition, HMSA’s statewide provider network includes exceptional women doctors, nurses, specialists, and other health care professionals.
